FROM BIRMINGHAM TO YOUR BATHROOM: HOW TRADE SHOW TRENDS BECOME REAL DESIGN

There is a moment at every trade show — usually somewhere between the third coffee and the fifth showroom display — when something stops you in your tracks.

A tile finish you have never seen before. A tap design that feels inevitable, like it could not possibly exist in any other form. A bathroom concept that makes you think: our customers need to see this.

That moment is exactly why we go to KBB.

What KBB Actually Is — And Why It Matters to You

The Kitchen, Bathroom & Bedroom Show in Birmingham is one of the most significant events in the UK interiors calendar. Hundreds of the world's leading bathroom brands gather under one roof to unveil what is coming next — new collections, emerging materials, evolving design languages, and the innovations that will define how bathrooms look and feel over the next two to three years.

For Isabella Bathrooms, attending KBB is not a box-ticking exercise. It is one of the most important investments we make in our showroom — and, by extension, in every bathroom we design for our customers.

We go so that you don't have to. And we bring back only what genuinely earns its place.

The Edit Starts Before We Leave

Walking the KBB show floor without a clear brief is how you return home overwhelmed and empty-handed. So before we arrive in Birmingham, we already know what we are looking for.

We ask ourselves: what are our customers telling us they want? What questions have come up in consultations recently? Where are people feeling underwhelmed by what currently exists in the market? We also look at what our existing brand partners — Grohe, Duravit, Roca, Lisna Waters, and the others — are bringing to the show, and what we want to explore beyond the familiar.

We carry our customers' wish lists with us into every hall.

What We Actually Look For on the Show Floor

Not everything that sparkles at a trade show translates into a bathroom that works in a real home. Our edit process is deliberate.

Longevity over trend. A bathroom renovation is a significant investment — one you live with for ten to fifteen years. We are not interested in what will look dated by 2027. We are looking for design directions with genuine staying power: the matt finishes, the textured stone-look surfaces, the warm metallics that feel contemporary now and will still feel elevated a decade from now.

Craftsmanship that holds up close. Trade show lighting is designed to flatter. We look at products in the harshest conditions — from the side, from below, with our hands on the surfaces. If the quality does not hold up under scrutiny at KBB, it will not hold up in your bathroom.

Products that solve real problems. The most exciting innovations at KBB are not always the most visually dramatic. A thermostatic system with genuinely intuitive controls. A wall panel that installs in a fraction of the time without sacrificing the finish. A smart toilet that transforms the daily routine for someone with limited mobility. We are looking for products that improve real lives, not just real aesthetics.

Things we genuinely want in our own homes. It sounds simple, but it is one of our most reliable filters. If we would not install it ourselves, we will not recommend it to you.

From the Show Floor to Our Showroom

Returning from KBB, the curation begins in earnest. We review everything we have photographed, sampled, and noted. We ask: does this fit the Isabella Bathrooms ethos? Is the brand partnership right? Can we support this product with the knowledge and installation expertise our customers deserve?

What survives that process comes into our showroom — not as a catalogue page, but as something you can stand in front of, touch, and experience in context. Because no photograph, however beautifully taken, does justice to the weight of a brass tap or the texture of a handcrafted tile.

The showroom is where trade show discovery becomes tangible. It is where you stop wondering whether something will work in your bathroom and start knowing.

The Trends We Are Watching This Year

Without giving everything away before we have even walked through the NEC doors, there are several directions we are watching closely at KBB this year.

The conversation around wellness and recovery in the home continues to accelerate. The infrared sauna — a category we have championed through our Lisna Waters partnership for some time — is moving from niche to expectation among design-conscious homeowners. At KBB, we expect to see this reflected in wider bathroom design: spaces conceived not just for cleansing but for restoration.

Texture is having a moment. Smooth, gloss surfaces are giving way to tactile, artisan finishes — limewash effects, fluted ceramics, rough-hewn stone looks that bring warmth and depth to a space. The bathroom is becoming more like a considered interior room and less like a functional utility.

Accessibility is finally being designed beautifully. This is a shift we welcome deeply. The clinical aesthetic of traditional accessibility fittings has given way to genuinely elegant solutions — walk-in baths, Doc M compliant suites, and wet room designs that are breathtaking by any standard, not despite their accessibility features but alongside them.

We will share everything we discover. Watch our Stories from the show floor, our post-KBB reveal content, and our showroom — where the very best of what we find will take its rightful place.

Come and See It in Person

The best thing to come out of KBB is not a trend report. It is a shortlist of products and ideas that will make their way into our showroom on Ballyclare Road — and, if the conversation goes the right way, into your home.

If you are planning a bathroom renovation this year and want to see what is new, what is exceptional, and what might be exactly what you have been searching for — book a consultation with us. We will walk you through everything we have discovered and help you design a bathroom that will still feel like a sanctuary ten years from now.
